First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt

First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt

Eleanor Roosevelt was the First Lady longer than any other. Always active in social causes, she was of particular assistance after Franklin became ill in 1920. Her reports and advice influenced the President in his programs of social reform. She had a charm that few could resist. Eleanor hosted many teas, dinners and receptions until the onset of the war and, although certain activities were curtailed, she quietly entertained military and political leaders. She never retired from her active public life.
