First Lady Caroline Harrison

First Lady Caroline Harrison

The interim between the two Cleveland administrations brought Benjamin Harrison to the Presidency and Caroline Lavinia Scott Harrison, his wife, to the White House as First Lady. She entered upon her new career with eagerness and enthusiasm, and her parties, dinners and receptions were brilliant affairs. Late in the winter of 1891-1892 Mrs. Harrison suffered from an attack of grippe, from which she never completely recovered. She died the following fall while still a resident of the White House.
